Oblivion Services
Oblivion provides it's users with client services, in conjunction by the makers of the IRCD.
ChanOP
The channel service allows users to register their channels and maintain a secure method of issuing operator status. More than a mere "bot", ChanOP is a server, effectively allowing it to maintain every aspect of your channel according to your wishes.
NickOP
The nickname service controls who has authorisation to use registered nicknames. You may elect to have NickOP enforce ownership of your nickname, so that those who do not know the password cannot use it. It can also store useful info such as your email address/website.
MemoOP
The message bank service allows you to leave notes to users with registered nicknames even when they are offline. For security, your notes can only be viewed using your password.
storm
This service allows network operators and administrators alike the ability to maintain the network at a server level. Network wide bans (G:Lines) and authorised triggers (certified mass-connections) are maintained through this service, as well as channel mode modifications and lockdowns.
For more help on services, ask online in #OA or contact services@oblivionirc.net.
Please use caution when sending your passwords to services. Oblivion has developed several methods of identification to prevent "impersonators" from getting your passwords. Example:
- /msg nickop@oblivionirc.net identify (password)
Depending on what IRC client you use (some common clients include mIRC, BitchX, ircII, PIRCH, scrollZ), this is going to vary slightly. Some clients will allow you to type /msg nickop or others may require /raw nickop or /quote nickop. Find out which one works on your client.
Always use one of the methods above and make sure you are only replying to "NickOP" or "ChanOP" when asked to supply your password. If you identify to a "fake" service (someone using a nickname similar to the real services nicknames, such as Nick0P or Chan0P), we will not be able to help you.
